Croydon Tramlink


Trackwork were awarded a contract to remove over 7km of plain track and 2 No. crossovers at various locations on Croydon Tram, to allow excavation and replacement of the defective capping layer and the subsequent reinstatement of the track.

In order to meet the tight programme and overcome restricted working conditions including working beneath OHLE, a significant portion of the work was carried out using Banverket’s specialised Ameca equipment. This allowed the lifting and transportation of large intact sections of the track along the formation, followed by removal and replacement of the ballast & capping layer and replacement of the track.

By utilising this unique solution and working closely with the civils contractor, the track was successfully re-installed on time and to budget.
