As part of a £5.7bn investment by the Department of Transport to purchase 122 no. new Intercity trains, Trackwork were awarded the contract to carry out the track renewals and modifications at the new Doncaster IEP Depot.

The new £70m maintenance depot will provide the facilities for the inspecting, repairing, cleaning, maintaining, re-fuelling and storage for Hitachi’s new fleet of Intercity Express trains. The facility will be able to accommodate a minimum of 10 five car trains on a daily basis.

Trackwork’s work comprised the supply and installation of all plain line track, switches and crossings, track in concrete and on stools within maintenance sheds, concrete walkways, point motor fitting and points heating installation.
