Turnouts, Switches and Crossings

Our design and manufacturing facilities incorporate up-to-date technology to machine and assemble vignole (full depth) and asymmetric (shallow depth) switches.

We manufacture fabricated (point and splice) crossings and are also able to supply semi-welded and austenitic cast manganese crossings, explosively depth hardened if necessary.

We generally produce switches, crossings and turnouts using new rail although we can offer serviceable rail if required. Our main rail types are S30, 95RBH, 39E1, 49E1, 54E1, 56E1, 60E1, 60E2 with asymmetric sections in 54E1A1 and 60E1A1. Rail grades range from R220 to R350HP.

Our manufacturing capabilities extend from supplying simple turnouts to designing and supplying complex double junctions and scissors crossovers on either composite, concrete, slab-track or timber crossing bearers. Our facility in Doncaster specialises in prefabricating layouts for our client’s Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), before dismantling them and delivering in component form or as modular panels by road or rail.

We produce turnouts and complex layouts for the following industries:-

  • UK Mainline (Network Rail, Translink)
  • Light Rail passenger networks
  • Train operating company depots
  • Industrial facilities – turnouts can be either conventional (on timber) or guarded (embedded in concrete)
  • Freight yards
  • Heritage railways

Our in-house signalling team is used to fit and test points operating equipment (POE) such as In-Bearer Clamp Lock (IBCL), conventional clamp-lock, hand lever boxes and supplementary backdrives.
